If you’ve ever removed wallpaper, you know that it can be a real pain. What’s even worse is finding out that you didn’t have enough wallpaper to finish the job.

We’ve all been there, right? I personally have had more projects than I can remember where I’ve not had enough material to complete the job and had to run out to the hardware store once or even twice more.

Well, one woman found a hilarious note from the previous owner of her home detailing their own wallpaper mishap. The note said, “If you ever need to wallpaper this room again, it will take eight rolls of wallpaper. I bought just six rolls at £17 per roll on 5/12/97 and I didn’t have enough. It really p***ed me off. Jon 21/12/97.”

The image of the note was shared on social media and garnered all sorts of reactions:

One user said: “Maybe his girlfriend or boyfriend was the type to make poor Jon slave away redecorating just four days before Christmas when he should have been drinking beer.”

Another user added: “Hoping for two more rolls from Father Christmas?”

A third user said: “Someone who needs to prove that their life is together before the judgmental hoard of Christmas visitors arrive?”

Others took the opportunity to share the notes they have left for future homeowners, with some more questionable than others.

One user said: “I still plan to paint a big moustache next time I redecorate, so in the far future when we strip the walls to decorate again, I can turn to my wife and say ‘you found my secret stash’.”

Another user added: “When I was like 17 we redid the flooring in my room, I wrote ‘free your mind your ass will follow’ on the slab.

“An elderly couple bought the place, I like to believe they went to put some carpet in to keep their feet warm, but ended up living their best life listening to the chili peppers.”

One more user said: “Somewhere under the wallpaper in my parents’ hallway is ‘this will be finished by Christmas’ written in my dad’s handwriting. Written underneath that by my mum is ‘what year?’.”

  • When I owned each of the 9 homes I have had I went up in the attic and put My name, wife’s name, daughters names, and the cats names on a rafter with a felt tip pin plus the dates we lived in the home, lately my cellphone number and email address. I guess I learned that from my parents who put their names on the backside of drywall in areas that could be used for storage. Kind of a living mark that we had been there. Imagine the history that could be learned if everyone did that in a particular home.

    • I never did that because I never faced a new owner. The Realtor took care of the sales and my lawyer represented me at the closing. The last home I bought new and it will probably be my last home as I have aged out.
