A federal complaint has been filed against Mary Lin Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia. The complaint came after a mother of one of the students learned that her youngster was placed in a segregated classroom.

The student’s mother, a Black woman, was outraged when her daughter told her that the Black students were put in two classes separate from the six classes for the White students only.

Kila Posey, the Atlanta mom, told the Mary Lin Elementary School administrators that she wants her daughter in the same classroom with all the students. What she further learned outraged her even more and caused her to take further action.

Ms. Posey secretly recorded the conversation that confirms what her child said. An assistant principal allegedly advised her that segregation is a practice at the elementary school.

“[The principal] said, ‘that’s not one of the black classes.’ And I immediately said, ‘what does that mean?’ I was confused,” Posey told the local news outlet. “I asked for more clarification. I was like, ‘we have those in this school?’ And she proceeded to say that yes, ‘I have decided that I’m going to place all of the black students in two classes.’”

Posey claims that the elementary school created eight classes, two for black students, and six for white students.

“We’ve lost sleep trying to figure out, like, why would a person do this? First, it was just disbelief that I was having this conversation in 2020 with a person that looks just like me, a black woman,” Posey said. “It’s segregating classrooms. You cannot segregate classrooms. You can’t do it.”

Apparently, the principal of the school, Sharyn Briscoe, also a Black woman, allegedly approves of this practice in her school.

Another administrator was taped saying that they wish they had more Black students because the practice of segregation gives them more opportunities. Kila Posey wants to put an end to this policy immediately. She shared her story with the local media in Atlanta.
