Jill Biden, the first lady, was mocked for remarks she made in a new public service announcement.
The First Lady and Surgeon General Vivek Murthy were both featured in a new White House PSA about the baby formula crisis.
Jill Biden began, “Becoming a mom or dad involves falling in love deeper than you ever thought possible.” “And in those first few months of sleepless nights of endless diapers and dirty dishes and worrying about every little danger, your love can feel like the only thing that keeps you going.”
She praised the parents by saying that they are “doing an incredible job.” Adding, “I know you are worried about how you are going to feed your baby. The president sees you, he hears you, and his team is working around the clock to get you what you need.”
Murthy further stated that the President is “dedicated” to increasing supply and reopening the closed factory.
“I know that you have questions. Any parent would. So, call your pediatrician. They can provide you the best, most updated advice,” Jill Biden said in conclusion.

Their remarks were met with disapproval, particularly among women who are unable to breastfeed.
“What a load of crap. Basically you’re saying, if your baby can hang on for however long, you may have formula produced in another country?” one person commented. “This message shares ZERO about help from the shortage. Babies cannot go without it.”

I think you are right. I was born in 1950 and I believe that is what my mother did. I am not sure if she breastfed me and then made her own formula, but sounds like something that was done back then. Your point is well taken.
Yes, they did make their own formulas and for babies that were allergic to cows milk, they used goats milk. My son had to go on soy based formula when he was an infant and I was unable to continue nursing because he had issues with cows milk. My mother-in-law helped me try homemade formula that was still milk based and did not work. I tried they soy milk formula which worked, but she told me that she had to use goats milk for my brother-in-law before a commercial brand came available. That was my next step if the soy milk did not work. My grandmother nursed 2 additional babies when she was still in the hospital after giving birth to my father which saved their lives. There are ways to take temporary measures until the supply is available and doctors need to provide recipes to patients in the meantime.
