Chief Twit Elon Musk recently took a shot at Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s “top medical advisor”, by tweeting that his pronouns were “Prosecute/Fauci”. The tweet quickly went viral and within a day had over 1 million likes, but it was also met with immediate backlash.

The White House was quick to respond, calling Musk’s tweet “disgusting” and “incredibly inappropriate”. Fauci himself responded by lashing out at Musk and accusing him of trying to “muddy the waters” between him and the White House. He went on to accuse Musk of trying to “undermine his credibility” and “discredit” the work he has done over the years.
While speaking to reporter Max Kozlov of the science magazine Nature, Dr Fauci said that he was not bothered by the attack as he went on to attack Musk himself.
“I don’t pay attention to that, Max, and I don’t even feel I need to respond,” Dr Fauci whined. “A lot of that stuff is just a cesspool of misinformation, and I don’t waste a minute worrying about it.”
“Do you feel your safety is at risk?” Kozlov asked.
“Of course it’s at risk, that’s why I have armed federal agents with me all the time,” Fauci said. “[Musk’s tweet] stirs a lot of hate in people who have no idea why they’re hating, they’re hating because somebody [famous] is tweeting about it.”
Over the weekend in a column of The New York Times, Fauci, who is responsible for parroting misinformation himself, claimed “misinformation” is why it remains hard to contain the virus in America.
“We also must acknowledge that our fight against COVID-19 has been hindered by the profound political divisiveness in our society,” Dr Fauci wrote. “In a way that we have never seen before, decisions about public health measures such as wearing masks and being vaccinated with highly effective and safe vaccines have been influenced by disinformation and political ideology.”
The reaction to Musk’s tweet shows just how powerful social media can be. One tweet can have an impact that is felt across the entire country and beyond. It can spark conversations and debates, and it can even influence public opinion.
At the end of the day, it’s clear that Fauci is getting nervous. He’s feeling the pressure of the upcoming Republican House of Representatives as well as a potential Twitter drop about Fauci.
