Pro-life pregnancy centers nationwide have received over $4 million in extra support through the CARES Act passed by the Trump administration on March 27th of this year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A report by The Guardian estimates that pro-life pregnancy centers in the United States have received anywhere between $4 and $10 million in forgivable federal loans under the paycheck protection program (PPP).

Pro-life pregnancy centers offer abortion alternatives as well as emotional and financial support to women who are faced with unplanned or otherwise challenging pregnancies. Their services are free, with a huge backbone of support from local churches, communities, and volunteers.

Pregnancy centers have seen an increase in need and services during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Life News.

Heartbeat International’s Abortion Pill Rescue Network, which offers services that reverse the effects of the abortion pill, have reported that twice as many mothers and babies than normal have been helped by the network’s services in March and April.

“In 2019, we averaged about 51 reversal starts each month,” director Christa Brown reported. “In March, there were 108, and in April there were 104.”

“The pandemic has added a lot of pressures for our clients,” Brown continued. “If they haven’t lost their jobs, maybe their income has decreased…their living conditions are crowded.”

The number of callers to their hotline has increased in recent months when, as a result of difficulties created by COVID-19, as well as closures and stay-at-home orders, many women turn to abortion pills.

Women who regret their decision call the Heartbeat International’s hotline for help. If they act quickly, there may be time to reverse the pill’s effects.

Over 400 women have successfully reversed the effects of an abortion pill under this treatment, and have delivered their children alive.

The Guardian reported that “Heartbeat International claims to have 2,700 crisis pregnancy center affiliates worldwide, and was itself approved for a PPP loan of between $350,000 and $1m…”

Additionally, the Obria clinic in San Jose, California was approved for up to $350,000 in PPP loans.

The Trump administration has a robust history over these past four years of supporting pro-life initiatives nationwide and globally. Most recently, Vice President Mike Pence visited a pro-life pregnancy center and highlighted the administration’s pro-life work in a speech given the same day.
