Podcast hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan apologized Saturday after video surfaced of them laughing for more than 20 seconds at a social media post joking about digging up Charlie Kirk’s body and “doing it again.” The apology came alongside an announcement that the hosts had donated to a gun-control group.
Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, while speaking at a campus event at Utah Valley University in Orem. Tyler Robinson has been charged with aggravated murder in the killing, and prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty.
Welch and Sullivan host the I’ve Had It podcast. In a November 5 episode titled “Drinking MAGA Tears,” the two read aloud posts celebrating Democrat election wins. Welch read a line stating, “We’re digging up Charlie Kirk and doing it again.” Both women dropped their heads and laughed. A producer could be heard saying, “I’m zooming in for Fox,” to which Welch replied, “No comment. No comment on that.”
The clip spread quickly online and drew widespread condemnation. In the same episode, the hosts had claimed Robinson was “a MAGA person” from a “white MAGA family.” Robinson was registered to vote with no party affiliation, and his mother told police he had grown more supportive of gay and transgender rights before the shooting.
In their Instagram statement posted Saturday, Welch and Sullivan wrote: “On Thursday’s show, we laughed at a joke about Charlie Kirk. It was an insensitive joke, and we should not have laughed. We regret it, and we apologize.” They said they had donated to Everytown for Gun Safety, adding, “There is nothing funny about gun violence.”
Sponsors Pull Out
The fallout was swift. Cash App, Chewy, Boll & Branch, and Lola Blankets all announced within days that they were severing ties with the podcast. Cash App wrote on X, responding to a user calling for a boycott, “We do not condone violence of any kind, and we are no longer sponsors of this podcast.”
Conservative activist Brian Atlas, whose post prompted Cash App’s response, said the hosts had since edited the segment out of the episode and removed it. The account that originally posted the “digging up” line has since been set to private.
