A Senate financial disclosure shows South Carolina Democratic Senate candidate Annie Andrews drew more income from gun-control advocacy than from practicing pediatric medicine, raising questions about how she presents herself to voters.
The filing shows Andrews was paid $130,631 by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, groups backed by billionaire Michael Bloomberg. She also received $97,000 from Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and was compensated for 13 speeches delivered to children’s medical centers and pediatric organizations around the country.
A biography maintained by the D.C. Chapter of the American Association of Pediatrics describes Andrews as “a gun violence prevention advocate and researcher and Senior Advisor at Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action.”
Branding as ‘Dr. Annie Andrews’
Despite the shift away from clinical work, Andrews continues to brand herself as “Dr. Annie Andrews” in campaign materials and on her campaign website, which prominently features photos of her in a lab coat with a stethoscope. Records indicate she has done little hands-on patient work since losing a 2022 congressional bid.
Andrews resigned from her position at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2023 to pursue political advocacy full time. According to WCBD-TV in Charleston, where Andrews previously lived, she launched a political action committee focused on gun policy, which led to her connection with Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action.
Her LinkedIn profile confirms she served as a senior adviser to Everytown from May 2023 through May 2025 — the same stretch in which she was preparing to challenge the late Sen. Lindsey Graham in the 2026 midterms. She formally launched her Senate campaign a month after leaving the advocacy role.
Platform and Backing
Andrews’ campaign platform calls for “universal background checks” and “banning weapons of war from our streets.” She has also secured an endorsement from Giffords PAC, another national gun-control advocacy organization.
Her ties to Bloomberg-funded Everytown come as the former New York City mayor has pledged to pour $80 million into Democratic campaigns nationally in an effort to flip control of Congress in the November midterms.
Andrews is running against Republican Sen. Darline Graham in a contest that has intensified in recent weeks. President Donald Trump held a rally in South Carolina last week to rally support for Graham and other Republicans on the ballot.
