Apple TV has locked in the future of its spy drama Slow Horses, confirming both a seventh and eighth season after the show’s sixth-season finale aired. The streamer renewed the series for Season 7 back on July 8, 2025, ahead of Season 5’s debut, and then renewed it again for Season 8 on September 15, just before Season 6 premiered.
No premiere date has been set for Season 7, but the show has stuck to a roughly one-season-per-year rhythm, so a Fall 2027 release is a reasonable guess. Past seasons have run six episodes each, and Season 7 is expected to follow that pattern.
According to Apple TV’s press release, Season 7 will adapt Mick Herron’s novel Bad Actors, the eighth book in his Slough House series. The official synopsis reads: “In season seven, Lamb and his Slow Horses are on the hunt to find and neutralize a mole at the heart of the British Government before they can bring down the state.”
What the Season 6 Finale Teased
The end of Slow Horses Season 6, Episode 6 (“Judgement Day”), included a first look at what’s ahead. Standish asks Lamb if he’s heard from River, to which Lamb replies, “Yeah, funny enough, I got a postcard. ‘Weather’s lovely in the afterlife. Sunsets to die for. Love and hugs.'”
Taverner then reveals that “the head of the GRU, Vassily Rasnikov, arrived on UK soil unannounced,” a development that reopens the wound from Season 6. Lamb confirms the stakes bluntly: “That man sent a death squad to murder four of my joes.”
The teaser also shows Taverner working in the field, with Lamb telling her, “Takes some fucking balls going after you,” and Taverner vowing, “I’m gonna chop that little fucker, Sparrow, off at the ankles.” Shirley is shown smashing a bus windshield with what looks like an iron, prompting Lamb to tell her she’s headed to rehab to “get on top of impulse control issues.”
Other glimpses include helicopters and boats, Lamb asking, “How long has Rasnikov been in the country, getting up to fuck knows what?”, a warning that “something’s going down,” and Louisa cautioning that “we could be looking at a death toll into the thousands.” The footage also shows fistfights, gunfire, a car chase, Roddy with a gun to his head, and a man struck by a car — along with Lamb, true to form, eating messily.
The Bad Actors Storyline
Per author Mick Herron’s own summary, Bad Actors follows a governmental think tank that loses a key member, with former MI5 head Claude Whelan tasked with finding her — only for the trail to lead back to Regent’s Park, with Diana Taverner as the chief suspect. The book also finds Moscow’s First Desk active in London while Jackson Lamb appears to be withholding information of his own. Back at Slough House, Shirley Dander is in rehab, Roddy Ho is “in dress rehearsal,” and new recruit Ashley Khan stirs up further trouble.
Herron’s Slough House series currently runs nine full novels, in addition to standalone books, short stories and novellas he’s written over his career.
Looking Ahead to Season 8
Apple TV’s press release for the already-confirmed Season 8 promises “Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner face off in their most explosive confrontation yet,” describing a plot in which a botched blackmail attempt against the Park forces Lamb to expose one of MI5’s darkest secrets. Slow Horses is now Apple TV’s longest-running series.
