House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) says investigators examining Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) finances have found evidence that a wine business partly owned by her husband sold investors barrels purportedly containing aging wine that, in fact, contained nothing.
“There were apparently selling investors barrels of wine to be aged, but there was nothing in the barrels,” Comer said in a recent interview.
The business is eStCru Wines, a California winery partially owned by Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett. According to reporting by the Washington Free Beacon, eStCru filed for termination on April 4, shortly after Omar amended her congressional financial disclosures.
Omar’s original disclosures valued Mynett’s interest in the winery at between $1 million and $5 million, up from an earlier filing that placed it between $15,001 and $50,000. Her amended filing later reported no equity value for the winery or for Mynett’s venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital.
An Omar spokesperson attributed the change to an accounting error, telling the Star Tribune: “The original filing was based on incomplete information from Mr. Mynett’s businesses’ accountants in good faith and deference to professional judgment. It listed assets without liabilities, and it significantly overstated her husband’s net worth. The accounting error created a misleading picture of far greater wealth.”
Comer said the discrepancies in the financial disclosures, the winery’s operations, and other allegations involving Omar’s family gave investigators “multiple fronts where you could get a search warrant issued.”
Questions Over Citizenship Records
Separately, federal investigators have been reviewing Omar’s account of obtaining U.S. citizenship through her father’s naturalization. Correspondence from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Department of Homeland Security reportedly shows no naturalization record for Omar’s father.
Also under scrutiny is a 2019 request by Omar’s staff to change her birth year in a public reference record from 1981 to 1982. Omar has said she became a citizen through her father before turning 18; if the earlier birth year is accurate, that timeline could be called into question.
Warrant and Political Reaction
Former President Barack Obama has criticized the federal investigation into Omar as an “appalling” abuse of power, arguing the administration is selectively targeting her over her political views.
Attorney Mike Davis, writing in a Fox News column, countered that the warrant used to search Omar’s home undercuts claims of political targeting. Davis noted that U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew Sharbaugh of the District of Columbia, the duty judge at the time, reportedly signed the warrant, which under the Fourth Amendment requires a finding of probable cause that evidence of a federal crime would be found. Davis pointed out that Sharbaugh was appointed as a magistrate judge in October 2024 by district judges who were overwhelmingly appointed by Presidents Obama and Biden.
The various inquiries into Omar’s finances, immigration history and family business dealings remain ongoing, and no charges have been filed.

Omar Ilhan needs to be out of the election now!! She has way to many things against her and she needs to be charged!! anyone else would be. Don’t let this slide by as it looks awful already for our country’s election system and citizenship records. She needs to go before Nov. 3 elections, now, so they have time to put someone else in to run. Please do the right thing. If you did this, you would be out. She shouldn’t really be able to run as she was not born here, I know that only goes for the president but with all her faults, come on Pres. Trump, this is America!! 1 this year, 10 the next election!!!
