President Donald Trump told supporters at a rally in Kalispell, Montana, on Wednesday night that his administration has unwound Biden-era firearms enforcement policies, declaring, “I ended sleepy Joe Biden’s war on guns.”
The rally was broadcast by Right Side Broadcasting Network. Trump said he had also scrapped what he described as Biden’s “zero tolerance policy,” telling the crowd, “He didn’t have any idea what the hell it meant,” before adding, “I’m not sure I know what it means, but you’re going to have your guns.”
Trump described that policy as one under which firearm dealers could lose their licenses over minor paperwork mistakes. “They’d put firearm dealers out of business for minor paperwork errors,” he said. “Then they started taking away the ammunition, they couldn’t get the guns so they took away the ammunition.”
He pointed to a recent rule change from the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that eliminates federal registration requirements for suppressors and short-barreled rifles and shotguns. Trump said law-abiding Americans can now buy those items “without registering them with the federal government.”
Trump told the audience in Flathead County that they can continue to count on him to defend the right to keep and bear arms.
