Federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations executed a pre-dawn search warrant at the home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Monday, part of what the Department of Justice describes as an ongoing criminal fraud investigation into her immigration paperwork.

A Department of Justice spokesperson confirmed the operation to Fox News Digital, saying, “Today in the Washington, DC, area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice.” The spokesperson said the search was part of an “ongoing federal investigation.”

Omar responded in a statement posted to X. “I’m ok,” she wrote, before pushing back on the administration’s motives. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”

The investigation reportedly centers on immigration paperwork filed on Omar’s behalf by her late father when she was a child, according to Fox News Digital. Questions about Omar’s immigration history are not new; she has faced long-standing, unproven allegations that she entered the United States by marrying her brother.

President Donald Trump addressed those allegations in remarks to reporters aboard Air Force One last year. “Somalia, where you have a Congressman goes around telling everybody about our Constitution, yet she supposedly came into our country by marrying her brother,” he said. “Well, if that’s true, she shouldn’t be a Congressman, and we should throw her the hell out of our country.”

House Democratic leadership called the raid “deeply disturbing” and accused the administration of “corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries.”

The search escalates a years-long dispute between Omar and the president and raises fresh questions about the use of federal law enforcement against sitting members of Congress, a concern that has drawn scrutiny from across the political spectrum regardless of which administration wields that power.
