Toddler YouTube Star Ms. Rachel Draws Fire Over Gaza Comments and Donation Match

Rachel Accurso, the children’s entertainer known to millions of toddlers and their parents as Ms. Rachel, has become an unlikely lightning rod in the debate over Israel and Gaza after a series of public statements, donations and social media moments drew criticism from parents and commentators.

The controversy intensified after rapper Macklemore was dropped from Ed Sheeran’s “Loop Tour” following his repeated calls for a “Free Palestine” and his performance of the anti-Israel song “Hind’s Hall” during an opening set at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Macklemore said he would donate the $1 million he earned from the tour to organizations helping Palestinians. Accurso publicly backed him and pledged to match his donation with $1 million of her own, directing the funds to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, a group for which she serves as an ambassador.

Accurso has also faced scrutiny for her online associations. In a 2025 video, she referred to Palestinian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza as her “friend.” Days later, Azaiza told an Arabic-language podcast that he had hidden footage of Israeli hostages being beaten by a crowd in Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, saying he feared the footage would endanger the Palestinians shown in it. Accurso later deleted her video, though clips of it have continued to circulate.

In January 2026, Accurso drew further criticism after appearing to “like” a comment on one of her posts that read “free America from the Jews.” She said afterward that she had meant to delete the comment but “accidentally hit like and hide.” An account called “thepalestinenewsnetwork” responded to her apology by writing, “Spoiler alert: They left the comment themselves,” to which Accurso replied “ooooooooooohhhhh” before the exchange was deleted.

Asked by the Guardian about her willingness to take political stands, Accurso said she has “a really good moral compass.”

Critics say she pushes a one-sided narrative

Bethany Mandel, a Washington Examiner contributor, author and homeschooling mother of six, told Fox News Digital that entertainers like Accurso often don’t see their positions as political at all.

“This is the case for a lot of liberals. They don’t see it as a political perspective at all. They just see the world in black and white and what they are doing is so clearly correct.”

Mandel said Accurso’s commentary on Gaza reflects a broader pattern of accepting figures and framing that originate with Hamas-run agencies.

“It’s important to understand that she only cares about one narrative. She only cares about this very false narrative where what’s happening in Gaza is a genocide, falsely categorizing it as such. She amplifies numbers that are not real, the numbers of deceased children, the numbers of people who have died in general, she’s accepting a Hamas narrative on every single thing and amplifying it.”

Mandel argued the effect reaches beyond Accurso’s young audience.

“She is serving as their mouthpiece for a lot of Americans not just children and not just the adults that follow her.”

Concerns predate the Gaza controversy

Mandel said her doubts about Accurso began earlier, over an episode featuring a non-binary musician as a guest — likely Jules Hoffman, who has appeared in videos with Accurso in the past.

“She’s had fellow musicians and performers on camera with her who have no gender, and she takes away gender from these individuals especially, and they are amorphous, they go by they/them. And it’s a woman, but you can’t really tell that, especially as a child.”

Mandel said removing gender categories from content aimed at toddlers could interfere with a basic stage of early childhood development, since categorization by sex is often one of the first ways young children learn to make sense of the world.

“This is what Donald Rumsfeld talked about, the unknown unknowns. When we take that ability to categorize away from children, we’ve never done that in human history before. And it absolutely will have detrimental consequences to how they order the world around them, and we’re just going to have to find out what those consequences are.”

Mandel said parents who don’t object to Accurso’s politics on Gaza or her approach to gender should still be cautious.

“Parents need to choose these entertainers wisely because perhaps parents don’t care about the gender stuff, perhaps parents don’t care about what she’s saying about Gaza, but if they are not ultra-ultra-liberal, Ms. Rachel will eventually land on something that they do feel discomfort with.”

Mandel said she removed Accurso’s channel from her own family’s YouTube lineup years ago and has no regrets.

“I feel relieved as a Jewish parent that I took Ms. Rachel off of our playlist on YouTube years ago, and I’m sure I will continue to feel great about that decision in the years to come.”
