Lady Gaga has been photographed in Los Angeles with a newborn baby, according to Page Six, marking the public arrival of a child the 40-year-old singer has said for years she desperately wanted. The name and sex of the child have not been disclosed, and it remains unknown whether the baby was born via surrogate.
Sources close to Gaga, whose legal name is Stefanie Germanotta, told Page Six that reaching this point took a physical and emotional toll. She had reportedly been trying to become a mother since at least 2024 with her fiancé, Michael Polansky, 42.
“Stefanie’s had a hard road to travel physically,” one source said. “There have been moments of giddiness, and moments of despair. It has been so sad. It’s a real tale of hard times, both physical and emotional, en route to this happy ending.”
The same source pointed to “severe hip issues and a heap of other physical ailments, alongside everything she puts her body through when performing.”
Gaga has spoken publicly for over a decade about the price her body has paid for her career. In 2013, she underwent surgery after breaking her hip, telling Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live” that a surgeon warned her another show could have required a full hip replacement and sidelined her for a year or more.
In her 2017 Netflix documentary “Gaga: Five Foot Two,” she discussed living with fibromyalgia, a chronic condition marked by widespread pain and fatigue, saying she pushes through it to perform: “When I feel the adrenaline of my music and my fans, I can f—king go. But it doesn’t mean I’m not in pain.”
Her health struggles have extended beyond the physical. In 2021, appearing on Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey’s Apple TV+ series “The Me You Can’t See,” Gaga described a breakdown that followed being repeatedly raped by a music producer at age 19, an assault that left her pregnant. She has said that even as her career soared following her Oscar win for “A Star Is Born” in 2019, she was privately enduring what she called a “total psychotic break.”
“For a couple years, I was not the same girl,” she said. “The way that I feel when I feel pain was how I felt after I was raped. I’ve had so many MRIs and scans where they don’t find nothing. But your body remembers.”
In an October 2025 appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Gaga said motherhood was the role she wanted most: “What I really want is to be a mom. That’s my next starring role, I hope.” With the Los Angeles sighting, that hope appears to have been realized.
