Hunter Biden said he might launch a run for the presidency in 2028, according to an upcoming interview set to air Sunday on WABC’s Cats Roundtable radio show, hosted by supermarket magnate John Catsimatidis.
The former first son, 56, told Catsimatidis he “may have to” run if he secured the host’s endorsement. “If I get your [Catsimatidis’] endorsement, I may have to [run for president]. The things I care most about is the 50 million Americans that are still suffering with their addictions,” Biden said.
Biden, who has described himself as a “former crackhead” and was convicted on federal gun and tax charges, said his central qualification for the office would be commitment to the rule of law.
“Here is my qualification for becoming president, if you believe in the Constitution of the United States of America that you swear to uphold and protect. I want the next president to commit to one thing: to adhering to the rule of law,” Biden said.
Biden’s comments come as speculation continues over who might lead the Democratic Party in the next presidential cycle, with figures including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14) also mentioned as potential contenders in some circles.
No formal campaign has been announced, and Biden’s remarks appear to be his first public suggestion that he is considering a run.
