A TikTok user is calling on Democrats to boycott Buc-ee’s after the Texas-based travel center chain’s CEO indicated the company plans to keep expanding primarily in states with conservative leadership and business-friendly policies.
According to reporting on the exchange, the CEO’s comments praised states seen as more welcoming to large employers, citing lower taxes, lighter regulation and officials generally open to investment. The remarks did not sit well with at least one TikTok user, who responded with a warning aimed at the company: “You’re going to get what you wish for, Beaver.”
Buc-ee’s, known nationally for its oversized travel centers, barbecue, snacks and cartoon beaver branding, has built a large following that crosses political lines. The chain has expanded rapidly in recent years, drawing large crowds to its stores regardless of the state’s political makeup.
The dispute is the latest example of a company’s business decisions becoming a flashpoint on social media. Executives who favor conservative-led states for expansion are sometimes met with calls for boycotts, even when the stated reasoning is straightforward economics: lower operating costs, friendlier regulatory environments and governments eager to attract jobs and tax revenue.
It remains to be seen whether the online call for a boycott will have any measurable effect on Buc-ee’s business. The company has not issued a public response to the TikTok user’s comments, and no additional statement from the CEO beyond the reported remarks on business climate has been made public.
